इंग्लिश ग्रामर में Degree of Comparison का योगदान इंग्लिश विशेषज्ञों द्वारा सबसे अधिक माना जाता है. क्योंकि, यह किसी दो व्यक्ति / वस्तु की तुलना करने के लिए प्रयुक्त होता है. Superlative Degree, Degree of Comparison का ही एक भाग है जिसका प्रयोग दो या दो अधिक व्यक्ति या वस्तु में सबसे श्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शित करने के लिए होता है.
हालांकि Degree के अन्य भेदों से यह भिन्न नही है क्योंकि यह भी तुलना के लिए ही प्रयुक्त होता है. लेकिन इसकी प्रक्रिया एवं बनावट दूसरों से भिन्न होती है.
Translation के अनुसार Superlative Degree का प्रयोग व्यक्ति या वस्तु के गुण व्यक्त करने के लिए विशेष रूप होता है जो इसे महत्वपूर्ण बनाता है. Degree के तीनों रूप
- Positive degree
- Comparative degree और
- Superlative degree
अपनी स्थिति और तुलना के अनुसार प्रयुक्त होते है. इसलिए, यहाँ Superlative Degree के सन्दर्भ सभी आवश्यक रूल्स, परिभाषा, प्रयोग एवं उदाहरण आदि का विशेष रूप से अध्ययन करेंगे. जो प्रतियोगिता एवं बोर्ड एग्जाम दोनों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण होता है.

सुपरलेटिव डिग्री क्या होता है?
जब किसी वाक्य में दो से अधिक व्यक्तिओं या वस्तुओं के गुणों की तुलना की जाए, तो उसे Superlative Degree में होना कहा जाता है. सुपरलेटिव डिग्री वाले Adjective से पहले “The” और इसके बाद “of / in” का प्रयोग विशेष रूप से होता है.
इस degree से बनने वाले वाक्य को Positive या Comparative Degree के द्वारा भी व्यक्त किया जाता है. जैसे;
| मोहन सबसे मोटा लड़का है. | यह बिल्डिंग सबसे ऊँचा है. |
| Mohan is the fattest boy. (S. D) | This building is the highest. (S. D) |
| Mohan is the fattest of all boys. (S. D) | This is the highest building. (S. D) |
| Mohan is fatter than all other boys. ( C. D ) | This is the highest of all buildings. (S. D) |
| No other boy is as fat as Mohan. (P. D) | This is higher than all other buildings. (C. D) |
| X | No other building is as high as this. (P. D) |
Note:
1. All other के स्थान पर any other का भी प्रयोग हो सकता है लेकिन any other / no other के बाद Noun Singular रूप में होता है.
2. जब Superlative Degree वाले वाक्य में Superlative + of + all का प्रयोग हो, तो Comparative Degree वाले वाक्य में than के बाद anybody else / anyone else / everybody else प्रयुक्त होता है.
सुपरलेटिव डिग्री का प्रयोग भिन्न-भिन्न अर्थो में
1. जब किसी वाक्य में सर्वोत्तम गुण रखने वाले व्यक्ति या वस्तु दो से अधिक हो और उनमे से एक व्यक्ति या वस्तु की तुलना हो रही हो, तो ऐसे वाक्य का अनुवाद निम्न Rules के मदद से किया जाता है.
S + V + One of the + Superlative Degree + Plural Noun ( S. D )
S + V + Superlative Degree + Than + Most other + Plural Noun ( C. D )
Very few + Plural Noun + Plural Verb + Adj + as + Noun ( P. D )

| महात्मा गाँधी दुनिया के महान व्यक्तियों में से एक थे. |
| Mahatma Gandhi was one of the greatest persons in the world. |
| Mahatma Gandhi was greater than most other persons in the world. |
| Very few persons in the world were as great as Mahatma Gandhi. |
| यह सबसे आकर्षक दृश्यों में से एक है. |
| This is one of the most charming scenes. |
| This is more charming than most other scenes. |
| Very few scenes are as charming as this. |
| मेरा भाई एक गांव में सबसे लम्बा लड़कों में से एक है. |
| My brother is one of the tallest boys in this village. |

2. जब किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु की तुलना नकारात्मक रूप हो रहा हो, तो ऐसे वाक्यों का अनुवाद निम्न प्रकार से होता है.
S + V + One of the + Superlative + Plural Noun + If not the + Superlative
| वह सबसे सुन्दर लड़की नही, तो कम से कम उनमे से एक तो है. | She is one of the most beautiful girls if not the most beautiful. |
| यह सबसे उपयोगी किताब नही तो कम से कम उनमे से एक तो है. | This is one of the most useful books if not the most useful. |
| वह सबसे अच्छा लड़का नही तो कम से कम उनमे से एक तो है. | He is one of the best boys if not the best. |
| यह सबसे बड़ा शहर नही तो कम से कम उनमे से एक तो है. | This is one of the biggest cities if not the biggest. |
3. जब Superlative Degree वाले वाक्य में जितना / जितनी / जितने Noun से जुड़ा हो, तो ऐसे वाक्यों का अनुवाद निम्न रूल्स से किया जाता है.
This is the + Superlative + Noun + S + have / has + Ever + Past participle ( V3)
This is the + Superlative + Noun + Ever + V3
जैसे;
| मैंने जितनी लडकियों को देखा है उनमे सबसे खुबसूरत निशा है. | Nisha is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. |
| उसने जितने दृश्य देखे है उनमे सबसे सुन्दर यह है. | This is the most charming sight he has ever seen. |
| यहाँ जितने लोगो को बुलाया गया है उनमे सबसे अच्छा ये है. | This is the best person ever called here. |
| मैंने जितना भोजन खाया उनमे सबसे स्वादिष्ट यह है. | This is the most tasty food I have ever eaten. |
| मैंने जितने लोगो को जाना है उनमे सबसे महान तुम हो. | You are the greatest person I have ever known. |
Superlative Degree के सन्दर्भ में महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य
डिग्री के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण भाग Superlative है क्योंकि इसमें प्रयुक्त होने वाले वाक्यों का अनुवाद विशेष रूप से अधिक होता है. इसके साथ-साथ Comparative और Positive degree में भी अनुवाद होता है. जैसे;
जब किसी वाक्य में एक ही तुलना बहुतों से की जाती है और यह बोध होता है कि गुण की मात्रा सबसे अधिक है, तो ऐसे वाक्य को Superlative Degree में नही बल्कि Comparative Degree में अनुवाद किया जाता है. Examples;
इस आदमी से अधिक बहुदुर कोई नही हो सकता.
A man can’t be braver than this.
कटरीन से अधिक सुन्दर और कोई लड़की हो ही नही सकती.
A girl can’t be more beautiful than Katrina.
